What To Expect
“What will happen on my first visit?”
This seems to be what everyone wants to know before they will even take one step in the door. This is certainly understandable if you’ve never gone to see a chiropractor before. You likely wouldn’t walk into a restaurant without knowing what type of food was served, and you wouldn’t walk into a doctor’s office without knowing what to expect.
If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before, you likely already have a lot of questions and lot of ideas about what a chiropractor does. So let’s talk about what will happen on your very first visit to our office.
Consultation
During your initial consultation, we’ll sit down together and give you the opportunity to share your health concerns in detail. We want to understand how your issue began, how it affects you, what steps you’ve already taken to address it, and what treatments have worked for you in the past—even if they provided only temporary relief.
Examination
If after hearing about your problem it seems that your condition may be helped by chiropractic, we will perform an examination. There have been times where it has been very clear to us following the consultation that our office is simply not the best place for the patient.
We don’t accept patients for care that we don’t believe we can help, so we first evaluate your condition during the consultation and then perform range of motion tests, as well as chiropractic, orthopedic, and neurological examinations.
“Will I need x-rays?”
If your consultation and examination indicate that spinal X-rays are necessary, we will refer you for an X-ray examination. These tests are not required for every patient or condition—they are only recommended when they provide critical insights into your care. The need for X-rays will always be determined on a case-by-case basis, and we will thoroughly explain the purpose of the imaging before proceeding.
At the end of your first visit, we’ll discuss our tentative diagnosis and propose a personalized plan to address your condition. While treatment can often begin that same day, there may be instances—such as needing additional information from X-rays or further testing—where we’ll wait to ensure your care is fully tailored to your needs. This collaborative approach ensures you leave with clarity and a clear path forward, whether we start immediately, or after gathering more insights.
